The Sound of the Mountain by Yasunari Kawabata

An aging patriarch thinks he is dying and starts to doubt the value of his life.

He tries to stop his son’s philandering and forms a friendship with his daughter in law.

He remembers the passion he had for his wife’s sister.

One of my favourite Japanese authors. Great pathos and feeling. Emotive stuff. Recommend.

  1. Glad to hear you enjoyed the book, I don’t think alot of people are exposed to Kawabata and his unique style of writing.
