As we grow older our brains use strategies to overcome some of the changes associated with aging. In fact, there is the myth that from our 40s our brains are just in a steady decline, when are at our peak of our mental performance from our 40s-60s.

Drawing on our experience our brain has a wealth of experience with which to make value choices and decisions. So perhaps there is an argument to increase the retirement age.

The author highlights some recent research that shows that our brains do not decline in middle age.
